Nichols School was ranked as the best private high school in the Buffalo area by
leading school review site Niche. This is the third year in a row Nichols has placed #1 on Niche's list of Best Private High Schools in the Buffalo Area. Students, parents and alumni who share reviews of Nichols School on Niche valued the school’s rigorous academics, outstanding teachers, college preparation and a wide variety of extracurricular clubs and activities.
Nichols School earned another #1 placement from Niche on the list of Best Private School Teachers in Buffalo. 79% of Nichols School teachers have an advanced degree, including eight who have received a Ph.D. in their field. Teachers at Nichols shape rigorous, extensive curriculum as they see fit to make learning rewarding and relevant for each student. After the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty took part in professional development work and modified curriculum to provide a consistent, engaging experience whether students attend school in-person or online this year. With an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio, the faculty at Nichols are able to provide individualized attention to their students and encourage their growth.
This year, Nichols was also rated first on Niche’s list of Best College Prep Private High Schools in the Buffalo area. On the road to preparing for college, Nichols’ College Center supports families along the entire journey from considering colleges and majors to making the final decision. Each student works directly with one of three college counselors, who meets with that student and their family beginning in sophomore year. The College Center also hosts virtual college visits and educational events for families to stay tuned to the latest changes in higher education.
Nichols was also rated second on Niche, and first among private schools, for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the Buffalo area. The school's commitment to STEM learning is most evident at the Class of 1963 Center for Math and Science, which boasts eight mathematics classrooms and seven Upper School science classrooms with labs, and a STEM Lab and Maker Space in Albright Hall. Nichols also provides students with experiential STEM learning outside the classroom, with an award-winning robotics team, Science Olympiad and numerous clubs for math, computer programming, science and technology.
Niche is a leading online review site which ranks U.S. colleges, schools, neighborhoods and companies annually based on a variety of criteria. School rankings are determined by an analysis of reviews from students, parents and alumni along with data from the Department of Education.
