Greg Plumb '96

Head of Middle School
Greg Plumb ’96 was named Interim Head of Middle School in July 2021.
 
A member of the Nichols faculty since 2003, Plumb has been a leader in the Middle School community, driving several initiatives that shape the school’s culture today. In addition to teaching biology, Plumb was the 8th Grade Team Leader from 2013-17 and served as Middle School Dean of Students from 2017 to 2021. Plumb also coached Nichols’ varsity boys basketball team from 2004-2011. In 2010, he was named New York State Class A Coach of the Year and guided the team to the Class A State Championship. He continues to coach Middle School sports at Nichols, including 7/8 soccer and 7/8 basketball.
 
In 2015, Plumb created the Advancement of Leadership in the Eighth Grade (A-LEG) mentorship program, connecting eighth grade students with Nichols 11th grade students and helping eighth graders prepare for the eventual transition from Middle School to Upper School. He was also a co-creator of Nichols Middle School’s Heart Initiative in 2018, unifying the efforts of students and faculty throughout the school and in wellness classes and advisory to place a concerted focus on developing character, kindness, and care for others in all aspects of school life.
 
After graduating from Nichols in 1996, Plumb earned a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from Miami University in Ohio, and continued his education with a Master of Education in Biology from Canisius College in 2002. Plumb taught math at Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo and biology at Hamburg High School in Hamburg before returning to Nichols as a faculty member.
 
Away from the school, Plumb enjoys spending time outdoors, camping, and playing chess. He lives in Hamburg with his wife Cassandra and four sons Vaughan, Hudson, Montgomery, and Truman.
